How Can I Participate?
APEC has a wide range of speaking opportunities ranging from the formal Technical Presentations to informal Exhibitor Seminars.
Papers in the Technical Program require submitting a digest that will be reviewed by the APEC Program Committee. Authors whose papers are selected are required to prepare a formal manuscript for the APEC Proceedings well in advance of the conference. While this is the most challenging way to make a presentation, listing an APEC paper on the resume never hurts!
The Special Presentation Sessions allow a speaker to make a presentation without writing a formal manuscript. Presentations in these sessions are selected both for the quality of the presentation, whether or not the topic is of broad and current interest and whether or not the presentation's topic fits the APEC program. One of the requirements for Special Presentations is that they are strictly non-commercial.
Professional Education Seminars offer the chance to present a topic in both depth and breadth. The Seminars are three hours of presentation, offer a modest honorarium and can be made by more than one speaker. One of the requirements for the Professional Education Seminars is that they are strictly non-commercial.
Exhibitor Seminars give companies participating in the APEC 2009 Exposition a chance to present a 45 minute talk on the topic of choice. The best Exhibitor Seminars describe a problem generally faced by people in the industry, how the problem is solved in general and then, the advantages that your products and services offer in solving this problem. The number of time slots is limited so contact the APEC Exposition Chair (Don Woodard) soon to express your interest or request more information.
One of the things that separates APEC from other conference is the peer review process. This means that the papers in the Presentation and Dialogue sessions have been reviewed and scored by folks like you - people from all aspects of the power electronics industry. Through this process, it is you who chooses the papers presented at APEC. The success of APEC and the strength of the technical program depends on you - and people like you - taking a few minutes each summer to read the papers submitted for APEC and taking the time to give them a thoughtful review. Sign up to serve as a reviewer.
