Important Notice To All Prospective Authors

Having each paper presented in person at the conference is very important. It gives you a chance to explain your work and answer questions from those who are interested. Not having the paper presented at the conference is a serious disappointment to the APEC audience.

To help assure that each accepted paper is presented at the conference, the person who will be presenting the paper must register for the conference at the appropriate rate before the manuscript will be accepted for the Proceedings. Failure to have at least one author with a paid registration at the time the Proceedings goes to print will result in the paper being withdrawn from the conference. It is possible for one author to present multiple papers with only one paid registration.

See the APEC Policies for more on this requirement.

Preparing Your Digest, Abstract And Other Needed Information

The documents and information that are needed to submit a paper for the consideration of the APEC Program Committee are:

  1. An abstract of your proposed paper (to be used to assign the proper reviewers)
  2. The digest (a 3 - 5 page summary of your proposed paper in Adobe® Acrobat® Portable Document (PDF) format)
  3. A list of the references in the digest
  4. Contact information for the corresponding author (name, mailing address, phone number, fax number, email address)
  5. A list of all the authors (initial of the given name and full family name, affiliation city, state or country)
  6. The APEC Presentation Topic Category that best describes the topic of your proposed paper

When you have all of this information, you will log into the APEC Digest Submission Web site (coming soon!) and enter your information and upload your digest.

Details on the required information, documents and submission process is given below.

Preparing Your Abstract

The abstract is a short statement of the contribution of your paper. As briefly as possible, describe the problem your work addresses and how your work contributes to the solution. The abstract should be no longer than 400 characters. The abstracts are used by the Program Committee to route your digest to the proper reviewers. Please make sure that your abstract accurately describes the content of your proposed paper.

Abstracts are typed into the APEC submission web site and are not separate documents.

Preparing Your Digest

The digest an extended summary of your work. It should be three to five double-spaced pages long. Start by describing the problem your work addresses. Describe your work and how it contributes to the solution of the problem. Include, if relevant, as much evidence of completed experimental as possible. Within the digest, indicate a reference with a number in square brackets (Example: [1]). Do not include the references themselves with the digest. Instead, when submitting the digest, you will enter the references directly into the APEC digest submission Web site.

The guidelines and requirements for digests submitted to APEC 2006 are:

  • Papers presented at APEC must be original material and must not have been previously presented or published.
  • The Digest should give a clear and concise statement of the purpose and contribution of the work, specific results and the methods used. Include key figures, tables and references.
  • For papers presenting original research, APEC reviewers value highly evidence of completed experimental work such as oscillograms and photos of equipment under test. Please note that APEC reviewers generally do not consider computer simulations as experimental evidence.
  • The heading of the Digest should include only the title with no mention of the authors or their affiliations.
  • Digests should be three to five double-spaced pages including figures, charts, and equations. Each page should be a single column on North American A size (8.5 inch x 11 inch) paper with one inch (25 mm) margins on all sides.
  • The preferred typefaces are Arial, Helvetica, Times or Times New Roman. The preferred type size is 12 points.
  • Digests that exceed the five page limit may be rejected on that basis alone.
  • All digests must comply with the export control laws of the country or countries in which the author(s) reside. A statement of compliance will be required as part of the submission process.
  • All authors should obtain company and governmental clearance prior to submission of Abstracts and Digests.
  • Abstracts and Digests marked or labeled as "Confidential", "Proprietary" or with similar wording will not be accepted.
  • Digests must be submitted in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF). The conversion of the digest into PDF format is the responsibility of the author.

List Of References

APEC requires that the list of references not be included in the digest. This helps make the review process as impartial as it can be. Often it is possible to deduce the digest's author, or at least their institution from the list of references. This is why the references are entered separately during the digest submission process.

The references will be available to the participants of the APEC Program Committee meeting and may be used in the final determination to accept or decline a digest.

Contact Information For The Corresponding Author

This is very, very important! All correspondence from APEC will be directed only to the Corresponding Author. It is important that the Corresponding Author always be available from the time the digest is submitted until either:

  • Notice is received that the digest was not accepted for the APEC Program, or
  • The accepted paper has been presented at APEC 2006.

APEC's preferred method of communication is by email. Please make sure that the APEC offices always have the current contact information for the Corresponding Author.

Also please work with your computer networks administrators to make sure that your email services will accept email messages sent from the United States and from either of the following domains:

  • apec-conf.org
  • courtesyassoc.com

List Of Authors

To give proper credit to the authors in the APEC Program Publication, APEC Web pages and in the APEC Proceedings Table Of Contents, it is most important that you properly enter the information for each of the authors.

The APEC convention for listing an author's name is to use the initial of the given name and the full family name, in that order. For example, John Miller becomes J. Miller. For APEC authors from regions where the convention is to use the family name followed by the given name, you are asked to make the appropriate adjustment when entering your information on the APEC Digest Submission Web site.

In addition to the name of each author, you will need:

  • The name of the institution, organization or company with which they are affiliated,
  • The city in which the institution, organization or company is located, and
  • Either the state (for authors living in the United States) or country (for authors living outside of the Untied States).

You may list the authors in the order you choose. The order in which you enter the names on the APEC Digest Submission Web site is the order that will be used in the APEC Program Publication, on the APEC Web page listing of papers and in the APEC Proceedings Table Of Contents.

Here are some examples from APEC 2005 of how authors' names appear on the APEC Web site:

1.1 The Role of Power Electronics in Raising Our Standard of Living
A. Lidow; International Rectifier, El Segundo, CA

2.1 High-Frequency Digital Controller for DC-DC Converters Based on Multi-Bit Sigma-Delta Pulse-Width Modulation
Z. Lukic, K. Wang, A. Prodic; University of Toronto, CANADA

2.2 Piecewise Digital Control Method for DC-DC Converter
J. A. Abu Qahouq1, E. Shoubaki1, Y. Wen1, I. Batarseh1, G. Potter2;1University of Central Florida (UCF), Orlando, FL, 2ASTEC Power, Andover, MA

7.6 1.8 MHz, 48 V Resonant VRM
L. Huber1, K. Hsu2, M. Jovanovic1; 1Delta Products Corporation, RTP, NC, 2Delta Electronics, Inc., Chung Li, TAIWAN

Presentation Topic Category

To help the Program Chair and his assistants, the Topic Chairs, assign your digest to the reviewers most qualified to evaluate your digest, you must choose a Topic Category for your digest. This will be available from a drop down list during the digest submission process.

Please review the APEC 2006 Topic Areas before logging in to the APEC Digest Submission Web site. Review these topic areas and choose the one that best fits your digest. Be prepared to select that Topic Area during the digest submission process.

Submitting Your Digest And Abstract

Abstracts and digests are submitted through the APEC 2006 Digest Submission Web page. This page closed on August 1, 2005 and digests are no longer being accepted for APEC 2006.

When you first call up the APEC Digest Submission Web page, you will be asked to create an account. This will be used to keep track of all of your digests. You need create only one account no matter how many digests you are submitting.

After creating the account, follow the instructions on the APEC Digest Submission pages to enter the required information and upload your digest.

After creating your submission and uploading your digest, it will be granted "Draft" status automatically. Once the submission is complete, you will have the option to make it "Final".

Please note, it is very important that when are completely satisfied with the information you have submitted and the digest you uploaded that you change the status of your digest to "Final". Digests that are not marked as Final will not be entered into the review process! Every year at least one prospective author is disappointed that because they failed to make their digest "Final" it was not considered by the APEC Program Committee.

Please maintain up-to-date contact information for the Corresponding Author (especially the email address, which can be edited after logging in) as this is the primary means of communication regarding the status of your submission.

The Digest Review Process

A peer review process will be used to evaluate all papers submitted for consideration. The principal criterion in reviewing papers for acceptance will be the usefulness of the presentation to the practicing power electronics professional. The reviewers also value evidence of completed experimental work.

See the How Papers Are Chosen For The APEC Technical Program web page for more information on how your paper will be reviewed and accepted or declined for inclusion in the APEC 2006 Technical Program.

Now that digests are no longer being accepted and the review process has started, reviewers are no longer being accepted for APEC 2006.
